Change the verbs in bracket with the appropriate forms of
the verbs! Watch the sentence that might signal to the tenses of the paragraph. Word
with asterisk (*) are meant to be changed into passive form. Put your answers

It is 1848. Gold and silver (be) scarce. The world (need)
more of these precious metals. Everywhere people (search) for these minerals, but they (have not) much luck. Then one day, good news (hear*). Gold (discover*)
in California. From all parts of the world, thousands of people (rush) to California to join the search
for gold. Some (come) by land; others
by sea. Whole families (travel)
across the United States by wagon. A few of them (become) rich, but many others (disappoint*).
However, they (help) to write one of
the most colorful chapters in U.S. history.
